Others | Yolanda de los Bueis, KREA 2008 grant holder, launches an interactive adventure through the streets of London

Introduction

From 27 March 2010 to 10 April 2010
  • Londres

KREA Contemporary Expression, a cultural project backed by the Obra Social of Caja Vital Kutxa, awarded its second edition of scholarships in 2008. Among the projects selected in the artistic production section was a piece of work by Yolanda de los Bueis, who the Selection Committee decided to support in order to carry out an innovating creation of performance and interactive art, which captures an audience through the internet. Months later, the creative effort of De los Bueis is bearing fruit.

Yolanda de los Bueis launches the S.O.R. (speed of reaction) initiative, which will take place on the 27th March around the streets of East London. It is an interactive adventure that invites participants to solve puzzles and create their own questions by means of  mobile phone connections, QR codes - a system for saving information with a bio-dimensional bar code - Rollerblades, videos and quick responses.

The proposal will consist of an “organised fun contest” in the afternoon and at night followed by an audiovisual event with an award ceremony. The official announcement is mainly through the social networks of Twitter and Facebook.

In addition, this interactive adventure shall be supplemented with a subsequent exhibition at the Artistic Centre The Foundry in London from the 6th to the 10th of April. In this exhibition, the entire project shall be documented while offering the public the possibility of experiencing the game in a reduced version and without skates.

The project is based around the notion of playing and games, and probes into the fundamental laws of entertainment and recreation, raising questions about the boundaries between games/playing and the real world, which also have important ramifications in art, performance and virtual worlds.

The people who participated in the game which was carried out on March 27th shall become co-authors of the project. This project also aims to contribute to the debate about the development of games as an art form and how games can be conceptually, intellectually and emotionally demanding whilst also appealing to a broad audience.

Yolanda de los Bueis (Bilbao, 1967) has a degree in Fine Art from the University of the Basque Country, a postgraduate qualification in painting from Saint Martin’s College of Art in London and a Masters Degree in Digital Moving Image from the London Metropolitan University. She has received various cinema awards as well as scholarships and collaborations, including a grant awarded in 2004 by the Basque Regional Government. Her professional experience is based around the fields websites multimedia design and video.
